過去進行時
1. 概念: 表示過去某個時刻或過去一段時間正在進行的動作。
2. 句子結(jié)構(gòu): 主語 + was/were + doing sth. + 時間狀語
3. 時間狀語詞: at 5:00 yesterday afternoon, at that time, then 等連用,
5、 或者用另一動作來表示過去的時間。如:
They were playing basketball when she arrived.
While they were playing basketball, she arrived.

過去進行時側(cè)重表示動作延長的時間長度; 一般過去時表示過去某時發(fā)生過某事,側(cè)重說明事實。

注:下列幾類動詞通常不用過去進行時。
① 表示狀態(tài)的動詞 be;

④ 表示所屬關(guān)系的動詞:belong, have, own, hold (容納)等。
when, while
區(qū)別:
1. 由when引導的時間狀語從句,主句用過去進行時,從句應用一般過去時;
由while引導的時間狀語從句,主句用一般過去時,從句應用過去進行時。
When the teacher came in, we were talking.
當此句改變主從句的位置時,則為:
While we were

2. 如果從句和主句的動作同時發(fā)生,兩句都用過去進行時的時候,多用while引導。如:
They were singing while we were dancing.
