A Grandparents Answer a Call (2016新課標(biāo)乙卷)As a thirdgeneration native of Brownsville, Texas, Mildred Garza never planned to move away.Even when her daughter and son asked her to move to San Antonio to help with their children, she politely refused. Only after a year of friendly discussion did Ms. Garza finally say yes. That was four years ago.Today all three generations regard the move as a success, giving them a closer relationship than they would have had in separate cities. No statistics show the number of grandparents like Garza who are moving closer to adult children and grandchildren.Yet there is evidence suggesting that the trend is growing.Even President Obama’s motherinlaw, Marian Robinson, has agreed to leave Chicago and move into the White House to help care for her granddaughters.According to a study by grandparents.com, 83 percent of the people said Mrs. Robinson’s decision will influence grandparents in the American family.Twothirds believe more families will follow the example of Obama’s family. “In the 1960s we were all a little wild and couldn’t get away from home far enough or fast enough to prove we could do it on our own,” says Christine Crosby, publisher of Grand, a magazine for grandparents.“We now realize how important family is and how important it is to be near them, especially when you’re raising children.” Moving is not for everyone.Almost every grandparent wants to be with his or her grandchildren and is willing to make sacrifices, but sometimes it is wiser to say no and visit frequently instead.Having your grandchildren far away is hard, especially knowing your adult child is struggling, but giving up the life you know may be harder. C.It enabled her to make more friends. D.It helped her know more new places. 根據(jù)第一段最后一句中的“Today all three generations regard the move as a success, giving them a closer relationship...” A 2.What was the reaction of the public to Mrs.Robinson’s decision? A.17% expressed their support for it. B.Few people responded sympathetically. C.83% believed it had a bad influence. D.The majority thought it was a trend. D 3.What did Crosby say about people in the 1960s? Growing up, I had people telling me I was too slow, though, with an IQ of 150+at 17, I’m anything but stupid. The fact was that I was found to have ADHD(注意力缺陷多動(dòng)障礙).Anxious all the time, I was unable to keep focused for more than an hour at a time. However, when something did interest me, I could become absorbed. In high school, I became curious about the computer, and built my first website. Moreover, I completed the senior course of Computer Basics, plus five relevant precollege courses. While I was exploring my curiosity, my disease got worse.I wanted to go to college after high school, but couldn’t.So, I was killing my time at home until June 2012 when I discovered the online computer courses of your training center. Since then, I have taken courses like Data Science and Advanced Mathematics.Currently, I’m learning your Probability course.I have hundreds of printer paper, covered in selfwritten notes from your videos. This has given me a purpose. Last year, I spent all my time looking for a job where, without dealing with the public, I could work alone, but still have a team to talk to.Luckily, I discovered the job-Data Analyst-this month and have been going full steam ahead.I want to prove that I can teach myself a respectful profession, without going to college, and be just as good as, if not better than, my competitors. Thank you. You’ve given me hope that I can follow my heart. For the first time, I feel good about myself because I’m doing something, not because someone told me I was doing good.I feel whole. This is why you’re saving my life. 5.Why didn’t Tanis go to college after high school?
