Understanding each other 課 題 Welcome to this unit M6U3 Understanding each other 本節(jié)(課)三維目標與教學重難點 知識與技能 After learning this part, the students will be able to: 1. have a general understanding of a different way of greeting each other by people from different countries; 2. express their opinions about the possible problems that may be caused by the differences. 過程與方法 Discussion, reading and cooperative learning. 情感態(tài)度 與價值觀 Let Ss know some different customs that are different in different parts of the world 教學重點 Make students free to talk in and after class about the different customs in different countries. 教學難點 Talk and improve the Ss’ speaking ability. Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Lead-in Ask students to say what they know about the Chinese way of eating and greeting. T: As we all know, different countries have different cultures and customs. Look at the Quiz on the screen please, let’s know more about cultural differences in different countries. 1.In Western countries, it’s unusual to give tips. (No) 2.Westerners tend to avoid using 13. (Yes) 3.Nodding your head up and down always means yes. (No) 4.Usually, one should never give a clock as a gift in China. (Yes) 5.Never point to anything with your foot in Vietnam (越南). (Yes) 6.You can pass something to an older person with one hand in Korea. (No) 7.In Canada, it’s OK to arrive early if you are invited to someone’s house? (No) Step 2 Sharing information 1. Ask students to talk about the six pictures in pairs or groups focusing on the ways of specific greetings. Then ask several students to describe in their own words how people in different countries greet each other. 2. Ask students to look at the pictures again and read the captions under them. Ask them to match the ways of greeting with the countries. Country/Area Ways of greeting Holland putting their hands together and bowing slightly Thailand kissing each other on one cheek and then the other The USA greeting each other by touching noses South America hugging each other The Middle East shaking hands with each other Japan bowing to each other 3. Ask students to think about the question: What about an Arab and a Japanese meeting for the first time? As a Chinese, if you are not familiar with greetings from other countries, what might happen? (Maybe we would feel embarrassed; we might be involved in awkward situations like…) Step 3 Discussion Ask students to read the three questions under the six pictures and make sure that everyone knows the meanings of the questions. Then divide the class into three groups to discuss the three questions. After finishing, ask one group to report their answer to the class. 1. Do you know of any other ways of greeting that people around the world use? 2. People in different countries greet each other in different ways. Why? 3. Can you think of any other customs that are different in different parts of the world Step 4 Language points 1. People from different countries have different ways of greeting each other. Do you know any other ways of greeting around the world? the way of doing sth=the way to do sth 做某事的方式、方法 the way (in which/ that)sb do sth 某人做某事的方式、方法 2. …, you can expect to be hugged when you meet someone. expect “期望”,“期待” expect + n./ pron . 盼望或期待某物 e.g. He is expecting her letter. expect + to do sth. 期望做某事 e.g. She expects to go there next week. expect + sb. to do sth. 盼望某人做某事 e.g. He expects you to finish the work in time. expect +that clause期望/期待...... e.g. I expected that he would come one day. 3. think of 想起,想到,記起 Step 5 Homework 1. Search more information about different ways of greetings and some unique customs in some countries. 2. Prepare the Reading part. 3.
