第二部分:閱讀理解(共兩節(jié),滿分40分)
第一節(jié)(共15小題;每小題2分,滿分30分)
A
Last year,on report card day,my son and a group of his 13-year-old friends piled into the back seat of my car, ready for the last-day-of-school party at McDonald’s.“Jack got a laptop for getting straight A’s,and Laurie got a cellphone,” one boy said.“Oh,yeah, and Sarah got an iPod Nano, and she’s only in third grade,” said another.“And how about Brian? He got $10 for each A.”
I suddenly became concerned. These payoffs might get parents through grammar school, but what about high school and beyond? What would be left after the electric guitar, the cellphone, and the DVD player?
I saw the road ahead:As_the_homework_load_increased,my_income_would_decrease.I saw my comfortable lifestyle disappear before my eyes—no more of those $5 bags of already-peeled organic carrots. No more organic anything!
I started to feel surprised and nervous.Would every goal achieved by my two children fetch a reward?A high grade point average?A good class ranking? Would sports achievements be included in this reward system:soccer goals, touchdowns? What about the orchestra (管弦樂隊)? Would first chair pay more than second?I’d be penniless by eighthgrade graduation.
“We never paid anything for good grades,” said my neighbor across the street, whose son was recently accepted at MIT.“He just did it on his own.Maybe once in a while we went out for pizza, but that’s about it.”
Don’t you just hate that? We’re all running around looking for the MP3 player with the most updates, and she’s spending a few dollars on pizza. She gets motivation;we get negotiation (協(xié)商).And what about the primary grades? What do these students get?“When the teacher asked if anyone got rewards for good grades, everyone in my class raised their hand and said they got ice cream cones,” said one third grader.

A.Taking care of the children would influence my work.

C.Reducing my children’s homework load would cost me a lot.
D.More rewards would be needed as the children grew up.
48.It can be inferred from the passage that________.
A.if you pay kids for good grades, they will take it for granted

Gone are the days when men and women couldn’t associate (交往) with each other. When we are asked whether boys and girls can associate with each other, most of us will say,“Yes,of course. Why not?”
If we want to deal with the association between boys and girls properly, here are some “dos and don’ts” for you to follow.
1.Keep a normal and healthy state of mind. Our schools and classes are made up of boys and girls. It is very natural for boys and girls to contact each other and build up the friendship with the students of the other sex.Generally speaking,we should broaden the circle of the association. We should make as many friends as possible. We should have more friends of the other sex instead of one or two.We should contact the students in public instead of in secret.
2.Contact students of the other sex warmly, generously and sincerely.Don’t be too nervous or too shy in contact with a person of the other sex.In that case,it is very difficult for you to make a lot of friends,as no one likes a person who is too shy to say a word.If you are too shy a person, you can also find a way out.First of all,you can contact the students with the same interest and hobby with you.As both of you have much in common, you may have much to talk about. If you keep doing like that, little by little, you will gladly find you are also as free to express yourself as others.
3.Don’t fall into the ditch (泥潭) of early love. The boys and girls at adolescence (青春期) are rich in feeling and full of imagination. They are easy to regard the friendship as a sign of love and fall in love with each other at an early age.In my opinion, boys and girls at middle school are too young and too tender to shoulder the heavy duty of love.Early love is a green apple that can’t be eaten. An apple won’t taste sweet until it is fully ripe.Do keep out of early love.
50.The main idea of the passage is to________.
A.tell students to keep away from early love
B.give some advice on how to associate between boys and girls
C.say contact does good not only to boys but also to girls
D.teach boys how to talk with girls in the school
51.The underlined word “broaden” in the passage means “________”.
A.close down B.make small C.make broad D.close up
52.We should contact the students of the other sex in the following ways EXCEPT________.
A.with a good state of mind B.in public
C.warmly and generously D.in secret
53.Which of the following is NOT true?
A.Men and women used not to be allowed to associate with each other.
B.We’d better not make only one or two friends of the other sex.
C.Some students are too nervous or too shy in contact with a person of the other sex.
D.People like a person who always keeps silent especially when they are talking.

TOKYO—Mayumi,25,visits Thailand three times a year to see her Thai boyfriend.“Thai men are better than Japanese men,”she said.“They are sweet.”
Thailand is an increasingly popular travel destination for Japanese women in their 20s.Most of them go there to simply relax—but some of them said they go because they think Thai men can help them ease their stress.
“In Tokyo, everyone is so busy by themselves and we are always worried about things like jobs and money and I_get_tired_of_such_a_hectic_life.Thai people are broad-minded and I find it more comfortable being with a Thai guy,” said Mayumi.
The number of Japanese who traveled to Thailand has risen by 7.7 per cent to around 885,000 this year.Among them, the number of Japanese females in their 20s totaled around 142,000,compared to only 89,000 Japanese male visitors in the same age group.
A spokeswoman at Japan’s biggest travel agency, the Japan Travel Bureau, said Thailand has recently become very popular among single women in their 20s and 30s.
This is links in part to the popularity of Thai foods and other products in Japan. The popularity is also explained by lower costs, short distances traveled and Japanese travellers’preference for a short-term stay.
Masako Yoda,28,who has visited Thailand twice in the past with her female friends, said compared to Japanese,Thai people are more genuine and friendly.
“Thai people remind me of Japanese people 20 or 30 years ago.Japanese used to be more kind and honest to others.I think some Japanese women get fascinated with Thai men because they have something that we have lost,” said Yoda.
Yoda said that while the living standard is lower in Thailand, she thinks that some Japanese women could find something in Thailand that is more important than a high standard of living and a high salaried job in Japan.
Mayumi, meanwhile, said she is not thinking about getting married with her Thai boyfriend.
“International marriage is too complicated.I would rather have some fun now and think about the future later,” she said.
54.The passage shows us the fact that________.
A.Thailand is the hottest travel destination for Japanese women
B.a(chǎn)bout 89,000 Japanese male visitors traveled to Thailand this year
C.less than 825,000 Japanese visited Thailand last year
D.most Japanese women prefer Thais

A.I do not feel like working any more
B.I am bored with being busy at jobs and full of activities
C.I do not want to lead a poor life
D.I feel annoyed with the money I get from my job
56.From Yoda’s point of view, some Japanese women get fascinated with Thais because________.
A.they feel comfortable being with Thai men
B.Thais are taller and more handsome
C.men in Thailand have always got genuine and friendly smile on their faces
D.they appreciate Thai men’s honesty
57.It can be concluded from the passage that________.
A.both Yoda and Mayumi prefer men in Thailand to men in Japan
B.Mayumi likes the food in Thailand
C.more Japanese will travel to Thailand next year
D.Yoda will marry a Thai in the end

They crossed in front of me as I was driving out of the store parking lot (停車場).I would be delayed for a whole ten seconds. However,I realized that it was an elderly couple who were briefly delaying my departure (出發(fā)).No more anger.
The man leaned on his wife who walked in front of him.He not only used her for support but it was obvious that he was blind. She was his eyes as well. The two of them worked as one—each needing the other to function in this fast-changing world.
That little example of true strength that day changed my whole personal perception of life.Suddenly I wasn’t so mad about having to work a few extra hours on Saturday.I had my strength, and I was still relatively young.
That picture of those two elderly people walking with dignity and strength stayed with me the entire week.My life wasn’t so bad after all.I had my health and a good job.My wife always gave me good advice whenever I needed it.I started to think—not only was I lucky to have it all,but so was that wonderful old couple, who, despite the trials and hardships of a long life, still had the love and support of each other to carry them through this world.
There are so many people out there just like that couple. My wife and I sometimes picture ourselves in our old age, walking arm-in-arm into the sunset. That image always gives us a warm feeling of comfort.Just remember, none of us would be here if it weren’t for our elders. We should spend an extra minute to listen and learn when it comes to helping our elder friends. They need it.
58.What was the author’s first reaction when he was stopped by the old couple?
A.He showed great pity for the couple.
B.He didn’t mind at all.
C.He got angry at being delayed.
D.He waited patiently.

A.the author once decided to change his job
B.the author’s wife gave him lots of support
C.old people are more likely to get impatient with others
D.it is a bad thing to live a long life full of hardships
60.The main message that the author wants to get across in the last paragraph is that________.
A.everyone should live with dignity and strength
B.we should be patient when dealing with old people
C.old people can teach us many important lessons
D.happiness lies in a positive attitude towards life
第二節(jié)(共5 小題;每小題2分,滿分10分)
A.One Important Factor in Conversation
B.It’s not Difficult to Talk Well
C.A Famous Master of the Art
D.Pronunciation and Usage
E.What Makes a Good Talker
F.Talk with Strangers
61.
The ancient Greeks were very good at making conversations, and the greatest talker of them all was philosopher Socrates. His pupil,Plato, recorded some of his supposed conversations, and we read them in The dialogues of Plato. In many classrooms today,Socrates’ method of teaching is used.
62.
The best talkers appear to have a great interest in and love for their fellow creatures;a curiosity about the world in general;some powers of observation and reflection;respect for their own opinions and tolerance for those of others;and quick thinking. And they talked for the fun of it,not to show off their knowledge.
63.
A good voice must have the help of good speech, whose two assistants are clear enunciation (清晰發(fā)音) and correct pronunciation.Poor enunciation may suggest to your listeners that you lack consideration, and that you are not especially concerned about their opinion of you.
64.
Pronunciation is settled by common agreement of the community or group speaking the particular language or dialect. For standard pronunciation of words,a dictionary is your best friend. The usage of words is somewhat the same as pronunciation. To be accurate in your use of words is very important in your conversation.Dictionaries usually provide the usage of words. So whenever you meet with new words,it is a good idea to look them up in the dictionary.
65.
Think of meeting a stranger as a chance to have a good time to talk,to make a friend.Look with a smile directly into the other’s eyes when you are introduced, and shake hands with a firm, friendly clasp. This will give you confidence. Then try to have a smooth and pleasant conversation with him.
