111 Good evening, everyone. It is my great honor to be here to present my topic. Today I will make a lesson about healthy eating .It is the reading part of Module 2 from Senior English Required Book3. Now I’ll introduce this class in detail. 一、The analysis of teaching material This is a reading passage, it plays a very important part in this unit. It includes four contents: Warming up; Pre-reading; Reading; Comprehending(P9-11). By studying this part, students can deepen the understanding of the new words and improve their reading and comprehending abilities. 二、Teaching aims 1. Skills: (1) Let the students talk about different kinds of food that they favorite using new words and let students know about the function of different kinds of food in order to improve their speaking ability. (2) To improve the students’ s reading skills: predicting, skimming, scanning and finding out the detailed information. (3) Let students understand different meanings in different use of modal verbs “ought to/ must/ could/ had better”. 2. Value: (1) To make Ss aware of the importance of healthy diet and our diet is directly related to our health. (2) To make Ss know that we should form healthy eating habits and have a balanced diet in order to be healthy. 三、Teaching important points: 1. To grasp the use of new words and expressions. 2. To strengthen the students’ reading and comprehending abilities. 四、Teaching difficult points: 1. Talk about eating habits and healthy diet. 2. Understand the meanings of the modal verbs in this passage. 五、The analysis of teaching target: students 1. The students need to eat food everyday, so they are very familiar with this topic. 2. The students don’t often use English to express themselves or to communicate with others. 六、Teaching methods: Question and answer & Task-based method & Reading directing & Discussing teaching method 七、Studying ways: 1. Recognizing way: to remember the meaning of new words more easily according to the pronunciation or structures of the words. 2. Communicating way: to know more about healthy diet by talking about eating habits. 3. Searching way: to find out the information more efficiently and understand the main idea of a passage through different reading skills. 八、Teaching aid: A projector 九、Teaching procedures: Step1. Warming up 1. I’ll present some pictures about food and ask students to answer questions. 2. According to the pictures, discuss the function of the food and then fill in the blanks. ( This step can activate students’ interest in talking and help remind them of the words in this unit.) Step2. Pre-reading I’ll ask students to make dialogues about their eating habits. (By doing this, I want to help improve students’ speaking ability.) Step3. Reading 1. Look at the pictures and predict what the passage is about. 2. Skimming and scanning the passage and answer some questions. (1) Where does it take place? (2) Whose restaurant? (3) What foods are offered there? (4) How many parts can this passage be divided into? Say out the main idea of each part. (This step can be of help to improve students’ predicting, skimming and scanning skills.) Step4. Comprehending 1) Read the passage again and decide true or false. 2) Explain the sentences using modal verbs in your own words. 3) Talk about the advantages and disadvantages between Wang Peng’ s and Yong Hui’ s restaurant. (This step can help improve students’ comprehending ability and help them understand the use of some modal verbs.) Step5. Homework 1. Go on reciting the new words and expressions. 2. Write a short passage on the following topics: (1) What do you think Wang Peng will provide to win his customers back? (2) How do you think the story will end? (This step can be important for students to consolidate the knowledge learned.) As for my blackboard-design, since I use the PPT, I will not present it here. This is all of my teaching design.
