2019-2020年高考英語二輪復習 人生百味類 閱讀理解練習(2) xx高考英語閱讀理解--人生百味類 A man may usually be known by the books he reads as well as by the pany he keeps; for there is a panionship of books as well as of men; and one should always live in the best pany, whether it be of books or of men. A good book may be among the best of friends. It is the same today that it always was, and it will never change. It is the most patient and cheerful of panions. It does not turn its back upon us in times of adversity or distress. It always receives us with the same kindness; amusing and instructing us in youth, and forting and consoling us in age. Men often discover their affinity (密切關系) to each other by the mutual love they have for a book just as two persons sometimes discover a friend by the admiration which both entertain for a third. There is an old proverb, “Love me, love my dog.” But there is more wisdom in this: “Love me, love my book.” The book is a truer and higher bond of union. Men can think, feel, and sympathize with each other through their favoriteauthor. They live in him together, and he in them. A good book is often the best urn(甕) of a life enshrining the best that life could think out; for the world ofa man’s life is, for the most part, but the world of his thoughts. Thus the best books are treasuries of good words, the golden thoughts, which, if remembered and cherished, bee our constant panions andforters. Books possess an essence of immortality. They are by far the most lasting products of human effort. Temples and statues decay, but books survive. Time is of no account with great thoughts, which are as fresh today as when they first passed through their author’s minds, ages ago. What was then said and thought still speaks to us as vividly as ever from the printed page. The only effects of time have been to filter out the bad products; for nothing in literature can long survive but what is really good. 【小題1】A good book may be among the best of friends because_____. I was feeling really down because my long4ime friend had died. Then I started a six-week volunteering at a nursing home all day every Saturday. My routine was to serve the meal and clean up.After that,I would wait for the head nurse to tell me what to do. One day I was told to go to Room 117 to make sure the patient was all right. In the room I found a boy of eight sitting in his bed watching a movie.I was shocked to see a child in this seemingly forgotten nursing home for the old.He was so small and weak that you had to look closely to find him.He motioned for me to sit down.I grabbed his medical chart from which later I found out he had a terminal illness. We started to talk, and I found out that his family rarely visited, and all he did ever7 day was watch TV.I wanted to cry for him,and for my lost friend. As we talked,he had a smile on his face, and I asked him why. "The entire two hours Ive been here youve never lost that smile. With this horrible disease, how do you still manage to stay happy?" He thought for a moment, and then said that too many people are dead even before they die. They walk around feeling that God has cursed (詛咒) them and that they have nothing to live for. The boy said that he would not be like that.He wakes every morning thankful to see another sunrise. He keeps his window open so that he can smell the flowers and feel the heat of the sun.He also said that he has hope. "Too many people havent seen much of that around here," he said," Life is full of hope and we need to live life before it is gone." I don’t know what happened to him.I assume he passed away, but his lesson lives on.I now wake up and live each day to the fullest. The key to life is not money or fame, but the lessons we learn from it. 【小題1】The nursing home in the passage is mainly for_______ A.the elderly B.the homeless C.the disabled D.the abandoned 【小題2】The boy stayed happy mainly due to_______. Throughout the month of April, Canadians are being asked to “Give It Up for Earth Day!” Earth Day has been celebrated every year on April 22 since 1970. Earth Day Canada president Jed Goldberg says that as people bee more environmentally aware, they want to find ways to reduce their environmental influence, not just celebrate one special event. “Earth Day is a great launching_pad for thinking about environmental action every day,” said Goldberg. “Choosing healthier options, even for the short term, can lead to thinking about the influence of our decisions for a lifetime.” Thats the reason behind the “Give It Up for Earth Day” campaign. Its designed to encourage healthy habits that benefit people and the planet. It challenges everyone to help create a healthier world by making changes in their daily routine. “We wanted to plan an actiontargeted campaign that will give people a chance to act on their concern for the environment in a positive way,” said Goldberg. The campaign has identified four daily actions that can add up to huge environmental savings. They include pledging (保證) to turn off the TV, give up the use of poisonous cleaners, reduce consumption of consumer products and cut out meat. At the end of April, all of the pledges will be recorded and converted (轉化) into the number of TV hours not watched, dollars not spent on unnecessary items, electricity saved, greenhouse gas emissions (排放) avoided by cutting out meat, and poisonous chemicals produced from homes and landfills. “What were trying to achieve this year for Earth Day is to give people a chance to do something that is meaningful and measurable,” said Goldberg. 文章大意:4月22日是世界地球日,活動“Give It Up for Earth Day”倡導人們在地球日這一天為保護環(huán)境做一些有意義、行之有效的事情。 5.The aim of the campaign mentioned in the passage is to ________. I went up to the roof for a break and watched people swimming in the natural rock pool below our house. It was a sunny day. But as I looked into the distance, I discovered a series of three or four big waves racing towards the shore. They must have been at least four meters high and were heading at speed in the direction of the pool. From the screams that started ing from the beach, I could tell someone was in trouble. Without thinking, I held my bodyboard (沖浪板) and shouted at a stranger to call the lifeguards (救生員). My neighbor Moises had heard the screaming as well and was also outside with his bodyboard, so together we rushed to the sea. Once we got closer, we discovered two people floating about 400 meters out. Waiting for help wasnt a choice. I didnt think twice about trying to save them. When we finally reached them 10 minutes later, they were almost lifeless, pale and motionless. We could tell they were still alive from their small breaths. We put them on our boards, patted their faces to wake them up, telling them to be strong, all the while swimming hard to keep ourselves afloat. Thirty minutes later, I began to feel a bit afraid and tired. Finally, a small boat with three lifeguards headed towards us. When the boat pulled up, we helped push the couple on board, only to be told that there was no room for us. It seemed pretty unprofessional (不專業(yè)的) to leave us there—we were a couple of miles from the shore. I didnt feel like a hero. Im sure that anyone who could swim would have done the same thing. 文章大意:本文是一篇記敘文。文章講述了作者和他的鄰居救助兩位被海浪沖離岸邊的游泳者的故事。 9.What can we learn from the passage?
