To express opinions and give reasons for them. 4. To practise using adverbial clauses of cause, result and purpose with because, as, since, so that and so/such…that. 5. To distinguish between so…that and so that and practise using them correctly. Teaching difficult points 1. seeking information about the newspaper article 2. Learning adverbial clauses Teaching procedures: Step 1 Leading in Brief introduction to Kong Xiangdong. 1.ask students whether they know anything about Kong Xiangdong. 2.Then teacher will say something around the following pictures. Step 2 Skimming Read the text and answer these questions 1.What kind of music is Kong Xiangdong most famous for? He is famous for classical music. 2.What did Kong achieve in 1986? He became the youngest prize winner in Moscow’s Tchaikovsky International petition. 3.Why did Kong shave off his hair? He shaved off his hair to show that his music style was new, just like his new hairstyle. So (such)…that “如此…以至于” a. so + adj/adv +that 從句 b. so +adj +a/an +可數(shù)名詞單數(shù)+that 從句 c. so many /few +可數(shù)名詞復數(shù) +that 從句 d. so much/little(少) +不可數(shù)名詞 +that 從句 他是個聰明的男孩, 以至于他經常自己做玩具。 He is such a clever boy that he often makes toys himself. =He is so clever a boy that he often makes toys himself. so that : 1) “以便”, 引起目的狀語從句, 從句謂語常包含can, could, may, might等情態(tài)動詞, 若從句是否定句還可以用should. 他調大收音機的音量, 以便所有人能聽到這個消息。 He turned up the radio, so that everyone could hear the news. (此處可用in order that替代.) 2) “結果”, 引起結果狀語從句,從句謂語不包含情態(tài)動詞。 他調大收音機的音量, 結果所有人聽到了那個消息。 He turned up the radio, so that everyone heard the news. Join the two sentences by using so…that…, so that 1.It was cold yesterday. I had to wear two jumpers and a thick coat. 2. On my way to Beijing I will stop in Tianjin. I want to see our new factory. Read these sentences and decide which is and adverbial clause of cause, result or purpose. ? Kong explained that he bined Chinese folk music with the piano because he wanted to try something new. ?
