2019-2020年高考英語(yǔ)一輪總復(fù)習(xí) 課時(shí)作業(yè)18 A taste of English humour 新人教版 Ⅰ. American researchers found females are the more talkative sex because of a special “l(fā)anguage protein”in the brain. The study, conducted by neuroscientists(神經(jīng)學(xué)家) and psychologist from the University of Maryland, concluded that women talked more because they had more of the Foxp2 protein. The research, published in the Journal of Neuroscience, found that higher levels were found among humans that were women but in rats that were males. Their findings came after it was previously claimed that ladies speak about 20,000 words a day— over 13,000 more than men. “This study is one of the first to report a sex difference in the expression of a languageassociated protein in humans or animals,” said Prof Margaret McCarthy, who led the study. In their study, the researchers attempted to determine what might make male rats more vocal than their female friends. They separated fourdayold rats from their mothers and then counted the number of times they cried out in the “ultrasonic (超聲波的) range”, the frequencies higher than humans can hear, over five minutes. While both sexes called out hundreds of cries, the males called out twice as often, they found. But when the pups were returned to their mothers cage, she fussed_over her sons first. Tests conducted on the parts of the brain known to be associated with vocal calls showed the male pups have up to twice as much Foxp2 protein as the females. The researchers then increased the production in the brains of female pups and reduced it in males. This led to the female rats crying out more often and their mothers showing more interest to them. In contrast, males became less “talkative”. The researchers then tested samples from ten children, aged between three and five, which showed that females had up to 30 percent more of the Foxp2 protein than males, in a brain area key to language in humans. “Based on our observations, we assume higher levels of Foxp2 in girls and higher levels of Foxp2 in male rats is an indication that Foxp2 protein levels are associated with the more municative sex,” said Prof McCarthy. “Our results imply Foxp2 as a ponent (成分)of the neurobiological basis of sex differences in vocal munication in mammals.” 1.From the second paragraph, we can learn that ________. A.women always speak more words than men B.men and male rats have low levels of language protein C.McCarthy isnt the first to find females more talkative D.women and male rats have similar levels of Foxp2 2.The underlined phrase “fussed over” in the third paragraph probably means ________. A.related to B.paid attention to C.put pressure on D.counted on 3.The researchers carried out the experiments on rats in order to ________. A.test which part of the brain is key to language in rats and humans B.prove the levels of Foxp2 protein in humans and rats are different C.discover the association between Foxp2 protein and vocal munication D.determine the reason why female rats are more talkative than male rats 4.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage? Last month, I __2__(receive) an emial from my cousin Jack in Canada. He said he was enthusiastic about Chinas, and asked me to find me to find him some books __3__ (intend) for Chinese beginners. I was very pleased to do __4__ a favor. So I went from one bookstore to __5__, hoping to find something suitable for him. __6__ I selected a set of Chinese textbooks among a variety of similar ones. Then I went to a post office to have them __7__ (deliver) by air without delay. Several days later, I received Jacks email, __8__(say) that he really appreciated the books I had sent. Im very glad that Jack is beginning to learn Chinese just like many other foreigners abroad, __9__ I know it may be an __10__ (enjoy) challenge for him. 1.has 根據(jù)前面時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)in recent years 判斷句子應(yīng)該用現(xiàn)在完成時(shí),動(dòng)名詞作主語(yǔ),謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞用單數(shù)形式。填has。 3.intended 從結(jié)構(gòu)可知此處是形容詞短語(yǔ)做后置定語(yǔ)修飾名詞books, be intended for “為…… 4.such 根據(jù)上文內(nèi)容判斷“I”樂意幫這個(gè)忙,指上文提到買書的事情,填such。 5.a(chǎn)nother 固定短語(yǔ):from one...to another “從一個(gè)…… Ⅳ.短文改錯(cuò) In recent years many flowers shops have been appeared in our small town. It is mon for people to buy flowers when they go to a gathering, visiting a sick friend, or attend a wedding. I still remember clear one day last year when Tom, disabled student, presented some flowers to his mother to express his gratitude to her. He owes his entire life to his mothers kind and care. With her he would not have had the confidence or the courage to fight her disability. As a result of the great effort what he had made, he was finally admitted to a key university. 答案 In recent years many shops have appeared in our small town.
