Ⅰ. Q:Mr.Paul Tough, what made you want to write How Children Succeed? A:In 2008,I published my first book,Whatever It Takes.Later I realized I still had a lot of questions about what really happens in childhood. How Children Succeed is an attempt to answer those questions:Why do certain children succeed while other children fail? Why is it,exactly, that poor children are less likely to succeed? What can we all do to guide more kids toward success? Q:What did you learn about kids growing up in poverty(貧窮)? A:The traditional wisdom is that the big problem for low-ine kids is that they don’t get enough cognitive stimulation(認(rèn)知激勵(lì)) early on.In fact, what seems to have more of an effect is the chaotic environments that many low-ine kids grow up in. Q:How does failure help us succeed? A:I don’t think it’s quite true that failure itself helps us succeed. In fact, repeated failures can be quite devastating to a child’s development. What I think is important on the road to success is learning to deal with failure,to manage unfavourable conditions. That’s a skill that parents can certainly help their children develop. Q:How did writing this book affect you as a parent? A:It made me more relaxed as a parent. When my son was born,I was very much caught up in the idea of childhood as a race. Now I’m less concerned about my son’s reading and counting ability.Don’t get me wrong.I still want him to know that stuff. But what I’m more concerned about is his character. 1.Why did Paul Tough write How Children Succeed? A.To discuss some issues. B.To explain his first book. C.To analyse some phenomena. D.To put forward some questions. 2.What has a larger influence on poor kids according to Paul Tough? A.The conventional idea. B.Their living conditions. C.The spiritual stimulation. D.Their personal ambitions. 3.What does the underlined word “devastating” in the text mean? A.Important. B.Beneficial. C.Harmful. D.Unfair. 4.After writing the book,Paul Tough . A.regards childhood as a race B.has improved his writing ability C.is more worried about his son’s lessons D.pays more attention to his son’s personality B A European Union program is letting blind people experience famous paintings for the first time.It uses threedimensional(3D)printing to recreate famous paintings so they can be touched. One painting printed with the new technology is Gustav Klimts“The Kiss”.It is a popular attraction at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna,Austria. The painting shows a man and a woman standing in a field filled with flowers. They are wearing gold robes and have their arms around each other. The man leans down to kiss the woman. Klimt finished the painting in 1908.Until now, people who had trouble seeing could not appreciate the artwork. But thanks to the reproduction they can touch the piece and feel the ridges and depressions.Andreas Reichinger started making 3D versions of artwork in 2010.He said this reproduction was his most difficult project because the couples robes are so detailed. Dominika Raditsch is a blind museum visitor. She touched the reproduction. As she moved her hands around it she said,“Exactly, can you see these? There are so many details.”Raditsch said she could imagine what the original painting looks like when she touched the reproduction,“Its somehow round. You can feel it.You can feel it.It es with it.And in many places its so smooth. And then I think to myself:it probably shines too!”Raditsch said. The Belvedere is not the only museum to have 3D versions of its artwork. Some of the pieces at the Prado Museum,in Madrid,Spain have reproductions that can be touched. But the piece in Vienna has one special part:it is made with widely available 3D printing technology. That means one day, blind art fans anywhere in the world could download the source files and print the reproductions themselves. 1.What is“The Kiss”? A.A European Union project. B.A popular painting. C.A 3D technology. D.A famous museum. 2.Why did Reichinger say this reproduction was difficult to finish? A.The painting was reproduced detailedly. B.The original artwork was made in 1908. C.Blind art fans cant download the source. D.The 3D technology is not available. 3.How did Raditsch feel when she first touched the reproduction? A.Awkward. B.Puzzled. C.Excited. D.Nervous. 4.What is the best title for the text? A.A European Union Program for Museum Visitors B.3D Printing Lets the Blind Experience Famous Paintings C.How to Reproduce the Worldfamous Paintings D.A Special Museum for Art Fans in Vienna,Austria 【解題導(dǎo)語(yǔ)】本文是一篇說(shuō)明文。 從文章第二段的“One painting printed with the new technology is Gustav Klimts‘The Kiss’.It is a popular attraction”可知,《吻》是一幅深受歡迎的畫作。 從文章第三段的最后一句“He said this reproduction was his most difficult project because the couples robes are so detailed”可知,Andreas Reichinger說(shuō)《吻》是最難完成的作品,因?yàn)槟菍?duì)戀人的長(zhǎng)袍細(xì)節(jié)很多。故選A項(xiàng)。B項(xiàng)“原畫作制作于1908年”和C項(xiàng)“視障的藝術(shù)粉絲們不能下載資源”與該題的要求不符;D項(xiàng)錯(cuò)在“not available”,與文章第三段中的“started making 3D versions of artwork in 2010 ”不符。 從文章第四段中的“You can feel it.You can feel it”可以推測(cè)出Raditsch“激動(dòng)的”心情。 Recently while on vacation,my wife and I were enjoying the warm weather on a beautiful Florida beach. As usual,we 1 our chairs a few feet from the 2 and began our traditional beach activities:reading, relaxing, listening to sounds and taking in the sights including people around us.
