To help the Ss learn the spirit of Marco Polo as an adventurer. 學(xué)情分析 Students may feel interested in reading the story of Marco Polo. ( 教學(xué)手段 Teaching Aids: Blackboard, Multi-media teaching platform or tape- recorder 教學(xué)過程設(shè)計(jì)(詳細(xì)過程) Teaching procedures: Step 1 Greeting Step 2 Lead-in : The teacher gives a brief introduction to Marco Polo by asking questions and showing slides. T: today we are going to read a story about Marco Polo. Have you heard about Marco Polo? (use slide to give the question) Which of the following do you think is true about Marco Polo? A. He was a French merchant who traveled to Venice. B. He was an Italian merchant who traveled to China. S: B T: Yes. He was a very famous foreigner in China, many people know about his story. He came from Italy. Venice was his hometown.(show the pictures of Venice and the building where he was born) It is said that Marco Polo was born there. Marco Polo wrote a very famous book. Do you know its name?( then give the cover of the book and the book’s affection) S: T: When did Marco came to China? (slide: an old map of the Yuan Dynasty) S: T: How did Marco travel to China? (slide: an old map of traveling map) S: T: In 1271, he brought Marco on a trip to China and it took 6 years to get to China. Marco was surprised at Chinese customs and skills such as using coal for heating, paper money, noodle-making and many other things. (give a brief introduction) Now read the text, you will get more information. Step 3 Reading Task1 Read the text. Are these statements true (T) or false (F)? 1 Kublai Khan trust Marco polo very much. T 2 People began using coal as fuel during the Yuan dynasty. F 3 The Hall in the Summer Palace can contain 6,000 people having dinner together. T 4. China was more developed than Europe at that time when Marco travelled to China. T 5. It was not long before he arrived in Italy, a local war broke out near his town. F 6. Marco Polo wrote The Description of the world before he died. F Task 2 Listen to the text (make a preparation for the reading aloud correctly) Step 4 Read the passage aloud and answer these questions( do the exercise 2)in pairs to practise spoken English and have a better understanding of the text . Step 5 Post-reading: Finishing the READING TASKS in English Weekly Step 6 Speaking (Retelling): In pairs, Ss prepare a brief introduction to Marco Polo based on the given outline.(referring to Language in Use on page 27 ) Then practise telling each other. Homework: 1. Retell the story about Marco Polo. 2. `Finish Exercise 3 and 4 on page26 and Exercise 7 on page 71. The Second Period Grammar :Relative Clause(3) Defining And Non-defining Clauses 1. Do the exercise 5 2. Grammar Summary 4 on page 93 or Unit 8 Lesson 3 in English Weekly 3. Do the Exercise 6 and 7. By doing these exercise students will have a brief understanding of relative clauses Homework Do the exercise 3, and 6 on page70 and 71. Ⅶ.
